03:35 am - Date Night! I'd like to try an experiment. I want to go out with you, all of you.
Specifically, I want to see "The Fountain" this weekend sometime, and I'd like to do it as a group. Like, everyone in CST will see it at 3:30 PM on Friday. Everyone in PST will see it at 1:30 PM on Friday.
That way, I can be like, oh, man, so-and-so must be laughing so hard right now! Literally, we would all watch it together. Then we can come back and post comments at the same time, or something like that.
What do you think, eFriends?

 | You scored as XIII: Death. Death is probably the most well known Tarot card - and also the most misunderstood. Most Tarot novices would consider Death to be a bad card, especially given its connection with the number thirteen. In fact this card rarely indicates literal death.Without "death" there can be no change, only eventual stagnation. The "death" of the child allows for the "birth" of the adult. This change is not always easy. The appearance of Death in a Tarot reading can indicate pain and short term loss, however it also represents hope for a new future.

10:28 am - Pinewood Derby Every once in a while, I'll look Her up.
I'd say that I just want to make sure She's okay, but I know that's not entirely true. I mean, I do hope She's okay, it's just that I kinda miss Her and would love to reconnect.
And that may not be part of the Plan.
And honestly, it's really just plain, "her" now anyway. Current Mood: nostalgic Current Music: Winamp - EDR - Energy Club!

06:38 pm - Fun Things I Learn Sometimes So I've been seeing these two characters alot lately: 目的 I couldn't figure out what they mean, so I looked them up. The first one is "eye" and the second one is "bull's eye" (i.e., target), using the method I've studied to remember the kanji. In Japanese, it's read: もくてき. In Chinese, it's read: mu4 di4. In English, it's "aim, or goal" and means the same thing in Chinese and Japanese. Which is pretty interesting to me. When you "eye" a "target" you have an aim or goal. So, I'm finding that the basic meaning in Japanese and Chinese are the same. At some point I will understand which connotation goes with which kanji/hanzi, but for now, I'm happy to just learn as I go.

08:17 pm - Finite Plotlines I'm thinking a lot about this idea: http://thebookworm.blogspot.com/2005/04/plotlines.html
Basically, that link points to a NYTimes critic's theory that there are only seven stories, to wit:
1) Overcoming the Monster 2) Rags to Riches 3) The Quest 4) Voyage and Return 5) Rebirth 6) Comedy 7) Tragedy
In other words, every story ever told fits one of those seven essential plotlines. According to a close source, there are more than seven--she thinks there are around 32.
Has anyone seen this before? I think #6 and #7 are too broad to be useful, but the other ones look about right. Does anyone have a definitive answer to this?
Edit: Do erotic novels fit a storyline, or are they a distinct "plot?" What about pr0n? My guess is that the essence of pornography is not to tell a story so much as to describe a particular set of actions, which would mean that they have no plot, and thus do not fit into one of the fundamental plotlines (however many there turn out to be).
